Accessibility
Last reviewed: October 26, 2026
We want everyone to be able to read OneGodOneMessage.org, whatever device, connection or assistive technology they use.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA across the site. In particular:
- Language and direction: scripture is marked up with its own language and reading direction, so screen readers read Hebrew, Arabic, Gurmukhi and other scripts with the right voice.
- Labels: “Original” and “Translation” are announced, not only shown.
- Keyboard: the whole site works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link.
- Readability: text stays readable when zoomed to 200%, and color contrast meets AA throughout.
- Images: photographs are decorative and are hidden from screen readers. No text is shown as an image.
- Slow connections: pages are kept small, and photos are skipped when your browser asks to save data.
Known gaps
Before launch we tested every page with a keyboard alone, at phone width (375 pixels), and with VoiceOver on a Mac. We know of these gaps:
- Gurmukhi with screen readers: the original Gurmukhi text of the Guru Granth Sahib is read letter by letter by screen readers that have no Punjabi voice, such as VoiceOver on a Mac. The English translation beside it reads normally.
- Not yet fully tested: we have not yet completed tests with NVDA on Windows, or with VoiceOver on every page. If you find a problem, please tell us.
- Machine-translated pages may read less naturally until a volunteer Reviewer has checked them.
Tell us about a problem
If something on the site is hard to use, please tell us through the contact form, choosing “Report a problem”, or email info@onegodonemessage.org. We aim to reply within 30 days.
